A weekend I NEVER want to repeat.

A few weekends ago, we went to a birthday party at Pump It Up. This was our first time there and I was really hoping that Brody would enjoy it. He's not the biggest dare devil so it always takes some coaching to get him on stuff.
Trevor even got in on the fun.

Being all boy.

The party went great and I am now a big fan of that place. It was so nice that it was just Lance's (the birthday boy) friends in each room and all the kids got to play with each other. They move everyone so efficiently from room to room and then to the party room for pizza. Needless to say, Brody had a blast and Daddy only had to go down a couple of slides to get him motivated.

Well, here's where our weekend takes a turn for the worst. We went into the party room and Brody just looked so tired and wouldn't eat any pizza OR even any cake. We just thought he didn't get enough sleep the night before because Baylie was over and they played until about 11:00. Jason and I continued our plan and headed to the Towne Center for a little shopping. We made it through Target and Jason left to go play golf so I was praying the kids would go to sleep and I would be able to get some shopping done. The kids were great and after about 2 hours Brody woke up and was really whiny - just not normal. He kept saying he wanted to go home and his stomach didn't feel good - this is when I started to put a pep in my step to the car. That's all I needed was my son to show everyone at the Towne Center what he's eaten lately. Not my idea of a fun afternoon. Doesn't this look the face of a boy who is getting sick. We really just thought he was tired.

We made it home with no problems but 30 minutes after we got home here it came. Bring out the bucket, towels, and washcloth. Sounds like a fun afternoon, right? Well, this continued well through the night. So thankfully we had our lovely new "bed" laid out in the playroom and set Brody up with a pallet next to us with towels and the bucket right next to him. Nothing like being woken up and grabbing a bucket every 30 mintues until about 3:30 AM. He was so pitiful all he wanted was water but we had to cut him off since it would immediately come back up. We of course didn't make it to church on Sunday.

The bucket grabbing finally started to taper off by Sunday evening after some Dramamine and some Pedialyte. One bad thing about Brody ONLY drinking water and milk is that it is a chore to get him to drink Gatorade or Pedialyte when he is sick. We ended up giving him Pedialyte in a medicine dropper. He slept all afternoon on Sunday - on his comfy pallet.

Any possible way to get comfortable.
I stayed home from work on Monday because who wants to come and keep a sick child. It was definitely a Disney movie day. He got better that day but he stayed home from school that week just to be safe.

Let me just say that this was one of the worst and tiring weekends we have had. It's amazing to see God's hand in just the little things like our hardwood floors not being finished until Friday so we had our fancy "bed" in the playroom which was a very convenient way to handle Brody. If this ever happens again, which I pray it doesn't, I think we'll just move our mattress to the playroom again to be able to take care of the sick one.

  1. Awww, poor Brody. It's awful having to watch your kids be so sick and know there really isn't anything you can do about it. Glad he is all better!
