4th of July

As has become our annual tradition for the 4th of July we head to Jason's mom for a day of food, swimming and fireworks.  Everyone was there this year - so there were lots of little boys running around.  I  was able to just enjoy sitting by the pool and watching - something that I don't get to do very often.

We were finally able to get all the boys to sit down for a little while to watch Cars before we headed to see fireworks at Jax Beach.

Trevor wasn't too crazy about the fireworks.  Jason's cousins buy a ton of fireworks and shoot them off right in front of us so it's pretty loud.  This goes on for about 30 minutes and then we watch the Jax Beach fireworks which are much further away so you can't even hear them.

Brody didn't really like the fireworks in front of us either, but he stayed out there with us - maybe it's because we made him :)

It was definitely a LONG day - but lots of fun.  I kept reminding myself the next morning when my alarm went off at 5:30AM.

Church 4th of July celebration

For the past several years, our church has rented out the St Mary's Aquatic Center on the Sunday afternoon around the 4th of July.  We usually always have a good turnout and it's really a lot of fun for all of the kids to play with each other.

Neither one of my kids really wanted much to do with the kid play area because they have this big bucket that dumps tons of water all over the place - not a lot of fun for my boys.  Trevor mostly hung out on the side.  It took Brody a little while to start going down some of the slides but once he did he loved it.

Their favorite part was the lazy river, but of course I didn't get any pictures of that.

We all got in the olympic size pool and Brody swam the whole length of it by himself.  He was very proud.

Fun with friends

The Saturday night before the 4th of July, Stephanie and Adam invited us over to their house for a night of food and fun - with kids.  They have a pool so I figured the boys would have a blast playing with their little girl - Ava.

I had also been telling Brody that Ava would be there and she could swim pretty good - nothing like a friendly competition.  For some reason, Brody has been being a little timid with the pool and only wanting to doggie paddle and not swim in the deep end so I thought telling him about Ava would get him going.  Sure enough because we had the 2 jump off the side at the deep end and swim the length of the pool and he swam so fast and when he came up at the end he said "I won".  Now grant it Ava is not quite 3 yet, but I was just hoping this would get him swimming the right way again, so hopefully it helped.

Right before we left, the boys found the drums and they had a lot of fun.  Stephanie said they boys need a drum set for Christmas.

We had a lot of fun just hanging out with some friends and watching the kids play.

First on our list was to make popsicles.  My boys LOVE popsicles AND snowcones, so I thought it would be great to make homemade popsicles and my monthly Disney Family Fun magazine of course had a great recipe for chocolate ones - yeah maybe not the healthiest but they sure were good.

Summer 2011 Bucket List

Joanna, one of my friends from high school has 4 boys.  She seems to always have everything together - I just don't see how she does it.  Anyway, she and her boys sat down and came up with all of  these great things to do this summer.  I thought what a great idea - so I borrowed it.

Brody and I came up with the Singley Family Bucket List.  He is pretty excited about the things on the list that we are planning for the summer.  He has told several people about the list and is always asking what can we do on the list.  It's also helped to keep Brody on his best behavior.  You know what I mean - "If you continue to act this way then we will take such and such off this list."  Oh he does not like when we say that.

Not sure if we'll get to everything but it gives us a goal.

Houston, We have a climber

The Saturday night we got home from Destin, our sweet little Trevor decided to climb out of his crib 3 times before finally giving up and going to sleep.  Jason had left to go pick up our dog Allye at Pet Paradise so I had the joy of corraling Trevor in his crib.  We had a feeling since he had mastered crawling out of his pack n play on vacation that the crib would be nothing.  Sure enough our cute as a button Trevor is a climber.

There is nothing like putting an almost 23 month old in his crib, closing the door and then about 5 minutes later he shows up in the living room.  I decided to remove the bumper pads (since I think he was using this as a step)- yeah I know they probably should have been gone a long time ago.  That didn't stop him he did it 2 more times - I caught him climbing out on the 3rd time.  He never fell - so I give him high fives for that!!

Great - time to convert his bed to the daybed.  I wasn't really ready for that because then I had to fight the battle of keeping him in his room.  Jason said just give it a few more nights and let's see how it goes.  Sure enough, by the 3rd night, he didn't crawl out.  Yeah!!

Now he does occasionally climb out when he wakes up in the morning but thankfully it's around 8:00 so it's not too early.

Time for a change

Probably about 2 months ago I posted that we were getting ready for a change and more would be coming about it later, I am so happy to FINALLY post.  For the past 2 months we have been redoing our bedroom.  Boy was it time for a change.  The furniture we had was about 25-30 years old and was really not our style.  We were also ready for a King size bed.

Back in April our furniture was delivered and thanks to my daddy for painting our room - yeah we went with a medium teal color (and have a whole gallon left if anyone wants it).  We also decided to go with one of the memory foam mattresses - I wasn't really sure if I was going to like it - oh boy do I!

Since we went from browns to blacks I thought I would just spray paint some of our stuff instead of buying new stuff - I was trying to be resourceful.  So for the past 2 months, I have been a little spray paint crazy - nothing was safe in our house from being spray painted.

The mirror turned out pretty good so onto the lampstands.   I didn't stop there either- a smaller lampstand,  wooden S, tv stand for the TV, wall art, and in the future a couple of picture frames.

So, here is our finished project.  I am so happy with how it turned out.  I was nervous that we wouldn't have room for a king bed but it's amazing when you move furniture around that it will make the room look bigger.

 I got this idea from one of the blogs that I read - it sounded pretty easy and it was.

 Allye even got a new bed out of it that I actually made.  She has always slept on our bed but I was trying to keep our duvet cover clean so I had to make a new space for her and she LOVES it.
